A cherished community tradition in the Helderbergs

To the Editor:
Kiwanis Club of the Helderbergs is organizing this year’s Memorial Day Parade with marching units, floats, motorized equipment, and more.

At 10 a.m. on Monday, May 27, the parade will step off on Route 443 outside Berne and proceed to the Berne-Knox-Westerlo schools for a memorial ceremony. The public is encouraged to bring lawn chairs to set up along the parade route and to attend the ceremony at the school.

The BKW Marching Band will be back this year to participate in the parade and to play the national anthem and taps. Kiwanis members and helpers will hand out small flags for parade goers to wave.

This is a cherished community tradition. It’s a welcome opportunity for everyone to come together for a day to remember and honor our fallen heroes and to appreciate the freedoms we enjoy, thanks to their sacrifices.
