We can’t afford to sit out an election if we want progressive change

To the Editor:
I can’t help but respond to Mr. [Bryon] Christman’s letter of Aug. 11 [“Berne Democrats failed their candidates in the last town election”].  It makes no sense to me to blame people like the Ronconis who have spent a good part of their lives working on many community endeavors including elections. They have never been sparing in stepping in to help make things better.

I know that they among others did attempt to assist in the last election only to be ignored. I too had reached out to the Dems asking if I could help canvas or at least put a sign on our property but got nary a word. So, I don't believe that the fault lies with the voters but in the lack of a real get-out-the-vote campaign.

While I am very sympathetic to the plight of the lonely voice of reason on our town board, I don't think we can afford to sit it out if we want progressive change in the future.
