WESTERLO — Gail Darlene Snyder, an insurance broker who enjoyed outdoor activities, died peacefully at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center on Thursday, June 22, 2023. She was 69.

 She was born on Aug. 2, 1953, the daughter of the late Theodore and Dorothy (née Ringwald) Lounsbury, and was raised in Dormansville. She graduated from Greenville Central High School in the Class of 1971.

“She self-studied,” her family wrote in a tribute, “and became a licensed New York State insurance broker and was a chairwoman of the Westerlo Zoning Board of Appeals.

“She enjoyed horseback riding, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing.”

Her husband of 49 years, George “Robbie” Snyder, with whom she built a life in Westerlo, died a year ago, on July 6, 2022. 

“They shared many travel adventures, including trips to Yellowstone National Park, love of Tug Hill, Labrador retrievers and NASCAR racing,” her family wrote. “They attended hundreds of NASCAR races, cheering their favorites, Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr.”

 Gail Darlene Snyder is survived by her sister, Barbara Wisenburn; her brothers, Mark Lounsbury Sr. and his wife, Sharon; Theodore Lounsbury Jr. and his wife, Debbie; and her brother-in-law, Peter Snyder.

She is also survived by her nephews, Mark Lounsbury Jr. and his wife, Alicia; Thoedore Lounsbury III and his wife, Julie; Eric Lounsbury and his wife, Amber; her niece, Jennifer O’Leary, and her husband, Kevin; and her great nieces and nephews Zoey, Owen, Claire, Teddy, Eric, Collin, Logan, Conor, and Declan.

“Thank you to Our Lady of Mercy Life Center for the care and support of Gail when she needed it the most,” her family wrote.

Calling hours were held on Tuesday, June 27, at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home in Greenville, followed by a brief service. Interment followed in the Westerlo Rural Cemetery.
