Pyramid should pay the same taxes everyone else does

To the Editor:

Pyramid’s threat not to build a Costco unless it receives tax breaks is outrageous [“Neighbors sue to stop Costco, Pyramid says it won’t build without tax breaks,” The Altamont Enterprise, June 1, 2023].

Pyramid and Costco want to build here because there is a lot of money to be made. They want to unfairly compete with existing businesses who pay their property taxes so they can profit at the expense of competing businesses and local taxpayers.

Call their bluff. If they want to do business here, they should pay the same taxes everyone else does. If they refuse to build a Costco without a tax break, we will all be just fine without them.
