YMCA honors local students and educators

Local educators and students were honored Tuesday, April 25, by the Capital District YMCA.

The 24th annual event was held at the Appel Inn in Altamont.

Students and educators from area schools who demonstrate leadership and a dedication to service in their schools, communities, or local YMCA branches were eligible for the recognition.

Eligibility criteria included socially courageous behavior that led to responsibility and positive choices, and personal characteristics that embrace the Y’s values of care, honesty, respect and responsibility.

This year’s student recipients include:

— From Bethlehem: Christian “CJ” Franchini, Connor Reilly, Ella Drexler, Hallagan “Hallie” Hussar, Rachel Hammond, Sarah Hayes, Shen Henson, and Zachary Price;

— From Guilderland: Andrew Altschule, Emily Nelligan, Hasini Anireddy, Ishanvi Roy, Kiran Garcha, Molly Foote, Rehana Firdaus, Zainab Gondal, and Tech Valley High School student Juliana Gagliardi;

— From Ravena: Maximillian May; and

— From Voorheesville: Riley Chismark and Tahlia Michels.

This year’s educator recipients include:

— From Berne-Knox-Westerlo: William Dergosits;

— From Bethlehem: Alix Messier, Kelly Ciavardoni, Nick Ferguson, Nick Petraccione, and Nicole Conway;

— From Ravena: Jessica Doerr and Gloria Foley; and

— From Voorheesville: Joseph Sapienza and Jennifer Smith.

Recipients of the award received one year of membership to the Capital District YMCA, an award plaque, and a certificate.
