Help neighbors in need on May 20
To the Editor:
The Voorheesville/New Scotland Volunteer Day will be held Saturday, May 20, from 9 a.m. to noon. The annual springtime event promotes neighbors helping neighbors, matching volunteers with projects that assist our senior citizen community members and others in need in the town of New Scotland with yard work and other light projects.
Volunteers also assist with sprucing up the local environment through park and road clean-ups. With the support of the town of New Scotland, the event is organized by a dedicated group of volunteers, and co-sponsored by the New Scotland Kiwanis Club and Voorheesville High School Key Club.
Town of New Scotland seniors and others in need in the community due to disability or illness are encouraged to contact Lance Moore at 518-859-4492, or by May 5 to be considered for volunteer assignments for yard work or small projects. You may also contact the Town of New Scotland Senior Outreach Liaison Deborah Engel at 518-439-9038.
We always need volunteers! Community members, families, groups, and businesses can sign up via email at or send us a message through the New Scotland Kiwanis Facebook page. Voorheesville high school students can sign up though the Key Club’s Google sign-up. Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult volunteer, and volunteers must be able to provide their own transportation to project sites. We ask that volunteers register by May 13.
Volunteers will meet, rain or shine, at the New Scotland Town Hall on May 20 at 8:30 a.m. to receive instructions, supplies, and to fuel up (usually with coffee, donuts, and fruit) before heading out for the morning. Updates regarding the event will be posted on the New Scotland Kiwanis Facebook page and communicated to registered volunteers. We look forward to providing this opportunity for our caring community to help their neighbors in need.
