FISHKILL — John Marion, a resident of Fishkill, New York, for the past 35 years, died on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023, at the Sapphire Nursing Home. He was 78 years old.

He was born on July 5, 1944, in Altamont, the son of John Doyle and Helen Shoro. He was adopted by his mother’s second husband, Albert Marion.

Mr. Marion was the director of Personnel and Labor Relations at Taconic Developmental Disabilities Services Offices in Wassaic, New York until his retirement in 1996. While working at Taconic DDSO, he met Gabrielle Canino who became his wife. She survives at home.

“He was a great cook, had a brilliant mind, and was an avid New York Yankees fan,” his family wrote in a tribute. “No matter the genre, he loved all music as long as it was ‘good music.’”

In addition to his wife, Gabrielle, he is survived by his children, Cain Scalzo and Abra Marion; by four grandchildren; by his sister, Ruth Marion, and his brother, Peter Marion; and a host of other beloved family members.

His parents died before him, as did his sister, Lee Gilbertson.
