Guilderland Library Notes for Tuesday, November 22, 2022
Cyber attacks and fraud schemes are dramatically on the rise as these threats become more sophisticated and highly coordinated. It’s estimated that more than 53 million United States citizens fell victim to malicious internet schemes in the first half of 2022.
Investment fraud is the most costly form of cyber crime, with an average of $70,811 lost per victim. Seniors are especially at risk.
Learn practical steps you can take to help protect yourself by attending “Cybersecurity and You” on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 5:30 p.m. (no registration required). Samantha Baltzersen, a special agent in the FBI for more than 18 years and supervisor of the Albany Field Office’s Cyber Squad, will share tactics and best practices to make yourself a harder target for cyber criminals.
Topics to be covered include:
— Investment frauds and crypto investment scams;
— Grandparent scams;
— How business email compromises can affect your real estate and business transactions;
— How phishing and ransomware affect us all; and
— How to raise your cyber defenses.
