BPD: Identity-theft ring stole $100K

BETHLEHEM — Bethlehem Police have made four arrests to break up an identity-theft ring they say was responsible for stealing $100,000; the investigation is ongoing.

“The suspects in the investigation were going to SEFCU branches and using fraudulent documents to steal money and open loans using other people’s identity,” said a Friday release from the Bethlehem Police.

Police started the investigation when an attempt was made at the Slingerlands SEFCU branch, at 12 Vista Blvd., to withdraw $20,000 from an account, using fictitious identification.

Police were helped by SEFCU to identify more suspects, one of whom was an employee of the SEFCU branch located at 384 Route 9W in Glenmont.

These arrests have been made:

— Davon T. Parson, 19, of Albany, charged with four felonies — third-degree grand larceny, first-degree identity theft, second-degree possession of a forged instrument, and first-degree falsifying business records — and two misdemeanors: criminal impersonation and fifth-degree conspiracy;

— Evan E. Cutler, 23 of Menands, charged with four felonies — third-degree grand larceny, first-degree identity theft, second-degree possession of a forged instrument, and first-degree falsifying business records — and three misdemeanors — second-degree criminal impersonation, fifth-degree conspiracy, and false personation — and two traffic infractions: operating without insurance and being an unlicensed operator;

— Dnauticah Taylor-Sherman, 20, of Menands, was charged with four felonies — third-degree grand larceny, first-degree identity theft, second-degree possession of a forged instrument, and first-degree falsifying business records — and one misdemeanor: second-degree criminal impersonation; and

— Caeshara J. Cannon, 34 of Watervliet, charged with four felonies — third-degree grand larceny, first-degree identity theft, second-degree possession of a forged instrument, and first-degree falsifying business records.

All four of the suspects were arraigned in Bethlehem Town Court and released with a return date of Nov. 15.

With help from the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, the Bethlehem Police Department executed search warrants at locations outside the town of Bethlehem. During one of the warrant executions, an illegal handgun was recovered.
