Voorheesville Library Notes for Wednesday, June 29, 2022

Register to join our new Graphic Novel Book Discussion. We will be meeting quarterly, with the first meeting on July 13, at 7 p.m.. The first graphic novel we’ll be discussing is “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Adults are invited to join in a discussion and offer opinions, ideas, and comments on this graphic novel. This program is funded by the Friends of the Library. A limited number of copies will be available in print for $5. There will also be library copies available as well as digital formats. 

Summer Reading Bingo

From July 1 thru Aug. 26, patrons of all ages can play summer reading Bingo. Pick up a new game card at the library, or print one out from the website, every two weeks. Complete two lines in any direction to win a bookmark, pin or magnet. Complete the entire card to pick a prize from the prize box. No registration needed. 

Musical Story Time

Come to a deep dive with Miss Lisa’s Ocean themed musical storytime at 10 a.m., on Tuesday, July 12. With some familiar favorites and new music just for the summer programs, we’ll sing, dance, and play instruments while we explore Oceans of Possibilities together. For children ages 2-6  with a caregiver. Please register.

Sea life

fabric postcards

Join us at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, to create a colorful collage postcard using fabric, scissors, an iron, and a little machine-sewing. All supplies provided. Grades 7 and up, including adults. Please register.

Summer hours

Beginning July 3, the library will be closed on Sundays through the summer. Summer Hours will run through Labor Day, and regular hours will return on Sunday, Sept. 11. 

Holiday

The library will be closed on Monday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day.

Healthy fishing

Come learn about the healthy consumption of local fish and safe places to catch them on Tuesday, July12, at 6:30 p.m. We will learn to identify fish from local waters and how to read the advisory maps. Presented by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Albany County. Please register.

ENCORE! books

The Friends of the Library will be having special sales all month in July. Some of the specials to watch will be DVDs and CDs, buy one, get one free. There will be sports media specials and also Christmas in July holiday media specials. Regular hours are Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Thursdays 2 to 6 p.m., but please call ahead. 

History walk

Join us at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, July 16 and take a trip down memory lane with local history guide Dennis Ulion. Learn about how Voorheesville became Voorheesville, and how it became what it is today. Please register. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes, as this walk is 2.2 miles and may take over 2 hours. Subject to rain cancellation.
