72 vote in Voorheesville village election
VOORHEESVILLE — Once again, voter turnout was low for village elections on Tuesday with all the office holders unopposed.
Mayor Rich Straut took 70 of 71 votes and Superintendent of Public Works Brett Hotaling received one write-in vote for mayor.
Straut, who took over for Robert Conway as mayor in July was the day’s top vote-getter followed by trustees Richard Berger, who received 67 votes; Kaitlin Wilson, who filled Straut’s vacant seat, 65 votes; and John “Jack” Stevens, 64 votes.
A total of 72 ballots were cast Tuesday.
Voorheesville has 2,065 enrolled voters, according to the village, which puts Tuesday’s turnout at about 3.5 percent. According to the latest Census count, there are 2,841 residents in the village of which 2,182 are over the age of 18.
