Robert H. Moons

KNOX — Robert H. Moons, an outdoorsman who grew his own garlic and made his own maple syrup, died on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022, in Albany. He was 87.

He was the son of Adrian and Elizabeth (née Poling) Moons. His wife, Joyce Moons, died before him.

“Robert will be remembered by his friends as an avid skier and outdoorsman,” his family wrote in a tribute. “He enjoyed visiting the ocean and walking on the beaches and traveling where many special memories were made.

“Robert took great pride in his gardens, in particular the homegrown garlic, which could be tasted in much of his home cooking. In addition to his homegrown garlic, Mr. Moons had a special skill in making his own maple syrup, which he enjoyed most when sharing it with his family.”

He is survived by his sons, William Moons and his wife, Dawn, and Robert Moons and his wife, Patricia; by his grandsons, Jacob and Matthew Moons; and by his daughter-in-law, Bernice Kochan, and her daughter, Ila.

“He is also survived by his very special longtime friend, Sharron Humes, who will be remembered as Robert’s confidant and friend who gave him guidance and comfort,” his family wrote. “Sharron is also a senior member of the Helderberg Ambulance Service and graciously gives her time to the community every day.”

In addition to his wife, his son John Moons died before him, in 2021.

A memorial service will be held in the spring.
