BERNE — Pamela J. Porter, a devoted wife and mother and an adoring grandmother, died peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022. She was 67.

Born Sept. 21, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Roland and Shirley Dow Mason. Mrs. Porter grew up in Vermont where her father worked for Ethan Allen, the furniture manufacturer, and her mother was a homemaker.

She met the man who would become her husband, Stephen Porter, when he went to visit a friend in Vermont and they both attended a party. Their union ended only with her death.

Together, they raised two children, a daughter Ashley and a son Bryant. Their son died about three years ago.

“She was a really good wife and mother,” said her husband.

Describing her personality, he said, “She was not afraid to speak her mind.”

Mrs. Porter created many crafts. Among her favorites were making jewelry and making birdhouses out of gourds.

A stylish woman, one of her favorite pastimes was shopping, her husband said; she favored the online marketplace Poshmark.

“She adored the grandkids,” said her husband and would often take them shopping and to dinner.

She also loved cats, he said. “Through the years, we got her more,” said Mr. Porter. “She had 10 of them now.”
