Dawson Road home burns, family escapes

BETHLEHEM — A family who lived at 485 Dawson Rd. in Bethlehem was displaced when their home caught fire on Monday Dec. 27.
The fire was reported by a motorist who “flagged down” a Bethlehem Police officer, alerting him to the fire at 6:43 a.m., according to a release from the police department.

The residents had already left the building and were not injured. The Red Cross is helping the displaced family.

The fire is still under investigation to determine the cause, but it does not appear suspicious.

According to Albany County assessment rolls, the property is owned by Megan Brodzik, with a full-market value of $295,699.

Fire departments from Elsmere, Delmar, Selkirk, Slingerlands, North Bethlehem, and Onesquethaw helped to put out the fire. Also assisting at the scene were Albany County Sheriff Paramedics and Delmar-Bethlehem Emergency Medical Services.
