Lillian Mae Bellinger

GUILDERLAND — Lillian Mae Bellinger came into this world on Sept. 22, 1929, and left it the same day, 92 years later.

“Born in Berne to Aaron and Dora Deitz Warner, Lillian grew up on a working farm with her sister, Helen, and twin brothers Francis and Frank,” her family wrote in a tribute. “When Lillian was a teenager, she took a job at the New York Telephone Company. It was on her route to work that her beloved husband of 63 years, Carl Martin Bellinger, recently home from Iwo Jima, laid eyes on her.

“Instantly enamored, Carl begged the woman he was staying with to set him up on a date to attend a dance that evening. Unaware of her admirer, Lillian was surprised when her mother received a call, asking for permission to take her out.

“Lillian and Carl married on June 29, 1947 in St. John’s Lutheran Church, and over the next 74 years, Lillian enjoyed her life in Westmere, traveling the world and surrounded by her loving family. Lillian retired from AT&T in 1990.”
