Edwin David Hamilton

Edwin David Hamilton, who worked in construction and loved nature, died peacefully at home on Sunday, Aug. 8, 2021, after a long and tenacious battle with cancer. He died the day after he turned 59.

He was born in Albany on Aug. 7, 1962, to Arthur and Betty Weyant Hamilton, the youngest of their eight children.

“Ed attended the Voorheesville schools and lived in the town of New Scotland most of his life,” his family wrote in a tribute. “He worked in the construction trades and metalwork, and excelled in interior finishing.

“Ed had a love of nature and wild animals, and especially loved watching and feeding the birds. He also enjoyed playing guitar with friends and participating in family jams. Ed will be remembered and admired for his very strong will to live.”

He is survived by his mother, Betty Weyant Hamilton, and by his siblings: Bill Hamilton and his wife, Mary; Jeanne Eberhard and her husband, John; Sue Mead and her husband, Jim; Jim Hamilton and Peggy Smith; Karen Hamilton; Rose Gocheski and her husband, Phill; and Nancy Smith.

He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.

His father, Arthur Hamilton, died before him, as did his brothers-in-law, Kyle Cooper and Ralph Smith, and his sister-in-law, Maryellen Tucker Hamilton.

“The family would like to thank the caring staff and doctors at New York Oncology & Hematology,” the tribute said, “and from all of us, thank you, Bill.”

Services will be private.
