Florence A. Stanco

Florence A. Stanco, a homemaker who attended the Berne-Knox School when it was new, died peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2014. She was 95.

She was born in Berne, the daughter of the late Charles Jones Sr. and Edna Stevens-Jones. 

Her childhood homes were on dairy farms. She attended Berne-Knox School in the first class when it opened.  At the age of 25, she went to work in the office for the Army Depot in Schenectady.

She married Angelo M. Stanco in February 1947.  Their marriage lasted for 64 years, ending only with Mr. Stanco’s death in 2011. “The couple spent many years together and enjoyed sharing their experiences as well as spending time with family and friends,” her family wrote in a tribute. 

She was a homemaker for many years in Schenectady. In later years, she returned to the work force and was employed with the Internal Revenue Service in Albany.

“She enjoyed cooking and baking with her granddaughter, Lisa Stanco,” her family wrote. “They baked together for almost two decades, which will always be a fond memory now.

Florence A. Stanco is survived by her son, Joseph Stanco, and her daughter-in-law, Diane Stanco; four grandchildren, Paul Stanco, Lisa Stanco, Laura Decker-Stanco, and Mark Stanco; and several great grandchildren.  She is also survived by a sister, Shirley Janssen, and a brother, Ralph Jones.

A calling hour will be held on Saturday morning from 7:15 to 8:15 a.m. at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home at 5216 Western Tpk. (Route 20) in Guilderland, followed at 9 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church at 1803 Union Street in Schenectady.

The family thanks the staff of the Kingsway Community where Mrs. Stanco resided for a brief period of her life as well as The Community Hospice.
