Middleburgh Library Notes for Wednesday, May 5, 2021
Qualified voters of the Middleburgh School District will vote on the 2021 library budget on Tuesday, May 11, from noon to 8 p.m. in the Community Room of the Middleburgh Library.
Absentee ballots are available at the Middleburgh Library.
We have two candidates who are running for trustee seats this year:
— Deborah Brigadier, whom friends and family call “Debbie.” She was born into a military family with three sisters, first flying on an airplane all the way to Japan at age 7! She has two daughters, one who lives with one granddaughter in San Diego, and one who lives in Alaska.
She joined the Navy as a nurse, serving 20 years and then retired in Middleburgh in 2003. She served as a school nurse at Middleburgh Central Schools and continues to serve as a nurse substitute. She holds a master’s degree in nursing and presently is contracted with Schoharie County to do COVID-19 case investigations and management online.
She lives with her husband, Jim, a Middleburgh native, and retired 30-year Marine Corps pilot, in the town of Broome 10 minutes south of Middleburgh.
— Andrea Paglieri, a resident of Middleburgh for close to 30 years. “I have been involved in some way with the Middleburgh Library from developing summer science programs at the library on Wells Avenue to running a pre-K arts program at the newer library,” she wrote. “I have always felt that the library was more than just a catalog of books, but was a place that served its community in a variety of ways, from the drop-in story times to the concerts to the genealogy collection.
“It is this view of the library’s role in Middleburgh coupled with the reality of fiscal responsibility that makes this such an interesting time to be on the Middleburgh Library Board. Additionally, I am on the Best House Advisory Committee, which oversees the Dr. Best Medical Exhibit, as well as being a member of the Joint Recreation Commission, which is responsible for developing and running the summer programs, including the village pool and related activities, such as swim lessons, arts and crafts, and tennis/open gym.
“Having begun as a teacher of special-needs students in New Jersey, I retired a few years ago, ending my career as a pre-K teacher at Cobleskill-Richmondville Central Schools. Lastly, I live in the village of Middleburgh with my husband, Ray.”

Notice: After May 1, the Middleburgh Library will not be quarantining books that are returned to the library. This is based on guidance by the CDC and the Mohawk Valley Library System. During the pandemic we had fine free days due to the time of the quarantining. Now that we will shelve books as they come in, and we will be going back to the fine system we had before Covid. All patrons are still required to wear a mask and social distance while in the library.
