Sparkles of Joy
By SLS
Picnic table in the shade
Two young girls wearing face masks
Carrying out their mission
Surrounded by paints, crayons
And jazzy colored gloss pens
Rocks and paper and cardboard boxes
Walking up, I eagerly ask:
“I’m curious. What are you girls working on?”
“Oh, it’s a library project for poetry.”
“Ah, yes. That’s right! It’s National Poetry Month,” says I
“Absolutely fantastic!”
Magical really — and a spark begins …
Taking in the splay of painted rocks, each featuring a lone word of inspiration
I walk away smiling ...
Sparkled with joy ...
On this gorgeous Friday in April ...
And smiles spring again as the memory
Embeds gently inside.
Special days
April, like all months in the calendar year, is full of celebrations. National Library Week starts the month off with a quick hooray as National Poetry Month sprints simultaneously from the starting gate and rhymes all the way through to the finish line
Another one joining the full 30 gala is National Donate Life Month. April 29 is Poem in Your Pocket Day and there’s no shortage of ideas to pay homage to your favorite foods.
Swimming along the featured cues, sink your teeth into National Cherry Cheesecake Day on the 23rd, National Pretzel Day on the 26th, and Berne Public Library’s classic shake-up-your-reading-list day on April 30.
For sure, you can easily roll up a few of your own home-grown quirky reasons to celebrate, and share, regardless of the day, season, or month.
Story Walk
Here’s a thought. Add the Knox Story Walk to your April calendar celebrations. Join Miss Kathy, on Sunday, April 25, from 1 to 2 p.m. as she views the photos from the Friends’ January photo contest.
Displayed along the walkway, you’ll meet great art while enjoying a stroll in nature’s quickly changing spring landscape.
