Engineer with MiSci

Students in grades K thru 2 can learn about the science of engineering through an engaging story and hands-on engineering project from the wonderful educators at the Museum of Science and Technology. From 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., Wednesday, April 7, children will learn how to build their own flying machine and get to test and improve its performance.

Please register for this program online, or by phone. Registrants will be notified when supplies will be available for pick up and the Zoom link will be emailed before the class. 

Maker Mondays

for Grown-Ups

Register online, and pick up a new project kit every month. These are simple, no prior skills needed projects, that will help you relax and enjoy being creative. It’s a great way to unplug from the chaos that is our everyday life. 

Crime Lab Science

Students in grades 5 through 8 can learn about forensic science and how evolving technology helps scientists and detectives discover the truth about mysterious criminal cases., students will participate in a mock investigation where they identify the main types of fingerprints, explore the science of chromatography, learn about DNA and how to extract it, and use all of the evidence to identify the culprit.

This online class will be conducted by MiSci educators, from 2 to 3 p.m., Thursday, April 8. Please register to get the Zoom meeting link.

10 Warning Signs

of Alzheimer’s

Alzheimer’s and other dementias cause memory, thinking and behavior problems that interfere with daily living. The Alzheimer’s Association developed the 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s education program to help people recognize common signs of the disease and know what to watch for in themselves and others. The program will be held virtually via zoom on Thursday, April 15 at 1 p.m. Call Sierra at 518-675-7212 or go to alz.org/crf and click on Programs & Events to register.

Virtual story time

No registration is needed, and the video link will be available on the Library website and social media sites, to view at your convenience. Families of preschoolers can pick up a free take-and-make bag at the library each week, from Tuesday through Saturday.

The bag will include the storytime thematic art activity of the week. Check out some of these storytime themes:

— Spot and Dots, available beginning April 6; and

— Horsin’ Around, available beginning April 13.
