ALTAMONT — Frederick S. Hout of Altamont, a boilermaker who loved hot rods, died on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, after a long illness. He was 73.

Born in Albany to Frederick and Margaret Hout, he was a graduate of Albany High School and went on to serve in the Army Corps of Engineers from 1966 to 1968.

Mr. Hout spent his career as a boilermaker and retired from the University at Albany after 27 years as a general mechanic.

“Fred’s true passion in life was his hot rods and traveling with his fellow street rodders to car shows nationwide,” his family wrote in a tribute. “Fred could often be found in the garage, working on his 1939 Ford coupe or his 1940 Packard hearse.

“Fred was an avid fan of the local band ‘Badge’ where he made lasting friendships and met his future wife. He enjoyed vacations each year to York Beach, Maine with his family and friends, making some of his favorite memories.

“Fred will be missed by his lifelong friends for his spirited personality and witty comebacks.”
