Douglas E. Michaels

Douglas E. Michaels was never without his camera, his family said, and enjoyed taking pictures of school sports.

EAST BERNE — Douglas E. Michaels — a union electrician who lived in East Berne his entire life — died peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021, at Albany Medical Center Hospital of complications from multiple myeloma.

He had been fighting the cancer since 2012. He was 66.

He was born on Jan. 26, 1955 and was a lifelong resident of East Berne.

Mr. Michaels was a union electrician, working for Kasselman Electric in Albany for many years until his retirement in 2017.

“Douglas’s most loved hobby was his camera,” his family wrote in a tribute. “He was never without it. He enjoyed taking pictures of school sports. He also spent a lot of time taking pictures in the Cobleskill, New York area.”

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nancy (née Schiller) Michaels; by his daughters, Michelle Michaels of New York and Lynn Salisbury of Pell City, Alabama; by his three grandsons, Matthew Michaels, Brian Hoop, and David Salisbury; by his two brothers, Daniel and Dennis Michaels; by his sister, Diane Michaels; and by several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with his wishes, there are no services.
