Eleven new COVID-19 cases at Guilderland schools

GUILDERLAND — Because of quarantined staff, some middle school students here will be learning remotely for a few days.

Guilderland’s superintendent of schools, Marie Wiles, sent an email to “GCSD Families” on Monday evening, announcing 11 more confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Altamont, Guilderland, and Westmere elementary schools each have one new case.

Farnsworth Middle School has two new cases. Students on the school’s Mohawk 6C team will learn remotely from Tuesday, Jan. 12 ,through Friday, Jan. 15.

Guilderland High School has five new cases. Because of the number of staff on quarantine, students and staff on the Hiawatha 8A team — eighth-grade middle school students who are housed at the high school this year — will be learning remotely from Tuesday, Jan. 12, through Thursday, Jan. 14.

According to the state’s School COVID-19 Report Card, as of Monday evening, Guilderland has had 96 cases so far this school year: 53 at the high school, 17 at the middle school, seven each at Lynnwood and Westmere elementary schools, six at Altamont Elementary, four at Pine Bush Elementary, and two at Guilderland Elementary School.
