Luella Edna Ellis

SLINGERLANDS — Luella Edna (née Ogden) Ellis — wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother — “passed unexpectedly into eternity,” her family wrote, at Albany Medical Center, on Friday, Dec. 11, 2020. She was 90.

Born Feb. 28, 1930, “Lee wore many hats in her long life,” the tribute from her family said. She was an operating-room nurse for several years before she went on to be the school nurse for East Greenbush schools for 30 years.

“Lee was a master gardener and enjoyed all living things,” her family wrote. “She was a talented seamstress, knitter, and crocheter. Lee was a wonderful hostess and loved hosting the group she square danced with as well as all her neighbors on New Year's Eve.

“She was very active in her church and supported it through her craft group there. But her greatest joy was her family. Always the steady rock for all to rely on, she will be dearly missed.

“Lee will be remembered for her strength and her patience. She leaves a legacy of tender loving care, hospitality, and joyful service to her family, her church, and her many friends and neighbors.”

She was married for 69 years to the love of her life, Dick Ellis, who died before her. “Together, they had a clear goal: to love and support their grandchildren,” her family wrote.

She is survived by three sons, Robert, Richard, and Roger, and their spouses, and by 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Her brother, Richard Ogden, died before her.

“Thanks to all at Beverwyck Eddy Green Slingerlands for their loving care of Lee,” her family wrote.
