Next steps for the new children’s addition at the Guilderland Public Library: constructing walls and pouring the concrete slab.

We are just about ready to add the walls to the new children’s addition at the Guilderland Public Library. Once this area is enclosed, it will be heated and the concrete slab will be poured.

Inside, the former children’s area and fiction section is being readied for renovation, and sprinkler room and public bathroom renovations are progressing as well. View our monthly photo album to track progress on this project at: https://bit.ly/GPLConstructionPhotos.

Usable space throughout the library has shrunk significantly, making it challenging for staff and the construction crew to maintain adequate social distancing. Due to these current constraints, plus rising COVID-19 cases, we are assessing when we can safely welcome patrons back into the building. We will continue to keep you posted.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we strive to safely manage the rapidly-changing logistics involved. Updates are posted on https://bit.ly/GPLbuildingproject, Facebook, and Instagram. To subscribe to our weekly eNews and monthly newsletters, go to https://bit.ly/GPLeNews.

Cannabis for

pain management

Chronic pain is often the result of multiple root causes and illnesses, and doesn’t always respond to conventional pain medicine. Holistic approaches to pain management, including botanical compounds such as cannabis, can address root causes of pain, limit side effects, and work with other therapies.

Learn more about cannabis therapies such as cannabidiol (CBD) in this virtual session entitled “Holistic Pain and the Role of Cannabis” on Wed. Dec. 16 at noon. with David Gordon, M.D., ADOIM, IFMCP, Integrative Medicine and Medical Cannabis Physician and owner of Four Pillars Health and Wellness. This program is offered in collaboration with Brookdale Senior Living.  Please include your email when you register on the Events tab of our website; Brookdale will send you the invite to the Zoom session.

Trustees meet

The Guilderland Public Library Board of Trustees will conduct a virtual monthly business meeting on Thurs. Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. on our Facebook page. Public commentary may be directed to:  .  GPL Board meetings are archived at: http://bit.ly/GPLBoardMeetings

Dial-A-Story

goes global

With all the screen time we subject ourselves to these days, listening to a short story provides a welcome break to rest our eyes while igniting our imagination. Each week, our Dial-A-Story features new tales for adults and children.

There are at least 59 languages spoken throughout the Guilderland area, so we’ve added a new international languages line on Dial-A-Story to begin incorporating some of these. Call 518-519-4111 and make a selection to hear an engaging story anytime.  A story in Tamil is currently featured by choosing option 3 on this phone line.

Pronunciator

We have an interactive tool on our website called Pronunciator to help you learn any of 163 languages with personalized courses, movies, music and more. There’s also a new COVID-19 course in 101 languages. See https://guilderlandlibrary.org/learning-tools to explore all the options.
