Building project
Concurrent with this partial reopening, we expect to begin construction on Thursday, Oct. 15. This renovation project has been planned for more than three years, was approved by Guilderland voters in May 2019, and is anticipated to last until next fall.
We appreciate the public’s understanding as we strive to serve you in the best possible manner, while safety remains our highest priority. For more information, please see: https://guilderlandlibrary.org/get-to-know-us/places/renewal/.
Story times
Our next storytime kits will be ready for curbside pickup Monday, Oct. 19, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., while supplies last. Each thematic kit will contain suggestions for books, rhymes and songs to share together, and one or more fun activities.
Parents and caregivers, check out our YouTube channel Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. for picture book read alouds, where our children’s librarians share some of their favorites.
Cookbook Club
The next online meetup of our virtual Cookbook Club is slated for Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. We’re experimenting with recipes from “Big Love Cooking” by Joey Campanaro, owner of renowned Mediterranean-themed Little Owl restaurant in Greenwich Village.
This selection, just published in September, was suggested by one of our faithful Cookbook Clubbers. Register on the Events tab of our website, which includes instructions on downloading this cookbook using Hoopla. Then, choose a recipe to make and plan to share your results with us virtually on Oct. 21.
Creativity Connection
Calling all creative adults! Looking for a place to connect with like-minded folks?
This Creativity Connection online meetup on Thursday, Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. is for you! Get inspired to jump-start your creativity as we compare notes on mediums, processes and the library's creative arts collection. We’ll even provide journals to capture your big ideas. Sign up on the Events tab of our website to obtain the Zoom link, plus instructions on picking up your journal from us.
Restful sleep
We’re partnering with Albany Guardian Society to offer “A Great Night's Sleep” on Friday, Oct. 23 at 1:30 p.m. In addition to causing fatigue, sleep deprivation can harm your health and negatively impact relationships.
Learn about recent findings and strategies for achieving a restful sleep pattern. This virtual program is presented by Barbara Stevens, certified stress management consultant. Register on the Events tab of our website.
Drug Take-Back Day
Providing a safe and convenient way to dispose of substances, Drug Take Back Day will take place on Saturday, Oct. 24, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on a drive-through basis in our staff parking lot (an immediate right turn upon entering Mercy Care Lane), in partnership with the Guilderland Police Department. Prescription and over-the-counter medications are accepted, including liquid medicines and pet medications.
Instructions: Put your medications in a bag, if possible; wear a mask covering your nose and mouth; put bagged medications in an easily-accessible place while remaining in your vehicle, or in your trunk so an officer may retrieve it; drive through to the drop-off point and stay in your vehicle; follow the officers' instructions.
We cannot accept medications before 10 a.m. or after 2 p.m., nor can we accept sharps, needles, or lancets. Drug Take Bake officials will not question anyone, nor will they request identification. Please see www.guilderlandlibrary.org for further details.
Pumpkin decorating
Tweens and Teens (grades 6 to 12): meet us at Tawasentha Park Saturday, Oct. 24, 2 to 3:30 p.m. for Halloween fun! Costumes are encouraged. Among the activities planned, we'll decorate a pumpkin, then share a photo of your finished product online. The entry with the most votes wins a special prize! Sign up on the Events tab of our website.
