ALBANY COUNTY — The Albany County Soil and Water Conservation District is offering a free tire recycling event for county residents. Made possible through the use of state’s Conservation Project Financial Assistance funds, the event will take place during the week of Oct. 5 at the Albany County Department of Public Works located at 449 New Salem Road in Voorheesville.

“Stored tires can be a breeding ground for disease vectors such as mosquitoes and rodents,” says a release from the district. “Recycling and reusing them keeps them out of the landfills, allowing more space for other waste. It also reduces the risk of long burning tire fires that are difficult to extinguish and release harmful toxins into the air, soil, and water. Please take the time to be part of the solution.”

Registration is required and is being accepted by the district until Sept.25 on a first-come, first-served basis. For liability purposes, anyone who has not registered prior to the event will not be allowed to participate.

The district is limited to collecting 900 tires and therefore we will not accept more than 25 tires per household. We can accept only car and light-truck tires; no rims and no cut or half tires will be accepted, and no motorcycle, ATV, tractor, loader, or heavy equipment tires.
