Guilderhaven offers summer pet-care advice

GUILDERLAND — With the start of summer, Guilderhaven wants to remind all pet owners that, when it seems warm to us, it feels even warmer to our furry, four-legged friends. When out walking, they are also closer to the ground, receiving more reflected heat from sidewalks and pavement.

Heat and humidity make a constant supply of clean water even more essential at this time of year. It's also recommended to leave your pets home when running errands; a cool house is safer than a hot vehicle.

With the holiday weekend upon us, let’s remember our pets as we plan to celebrate. Too many dogs, and even cats, go missing every year from the fireworks.

Keep your pets indoors and use a leash when walking. If possible keep them in a room removed from excess noise and leave calming music on for them. With a little pre-planning we can all enjoy a safe and happy July 4th!
