Thank your neighbors for building something wonderful

To the Editor:

As I left the position of Altamont librarian, I heard many kind words from all corners of the community about changes at the library over the past 10 years. I appreciate this greatly.

But without a key group of community members, there would be no beautiful library in the old train station. The board of trustees of the Altamont Free Library is the most selfless, dedicated, and community-minded group I could have hoped to work with.

These volunteers have always said, “Yes”: Yes, we can raise a million dollars; yes, we can spend countless Saturdays priming, painting and pounding nails; yes, we can supply whatever the library needs from our kitchens, garages and tool sheds. Yes, we can make this work.

Their generosity has been boundless and I have been eminently fortunate to work with both the current trustees and their predecessors. I hope you will join me in thanking your neighbors as they have built something wonderful.
