We are all rallying as a community
To the Editor:
I want to update you on a few amazing things that are happening in the Hilltowns. There has been a Facebook group called “A Hug from the Hilltowns” that has been collecting donations and delivering to families and shut-ins that are in need during this transitional time we are in and will continue when things go back to “normal.”
Also, Helderberg Lutheran Church held an Easter Sunday service. The church did it drive-in style; everyone remained in their cars. The service was broadcast from a public-address system that a member of the town donated his time and equipment to make it a success. The sermon was preached off the back of a pickup truck. It was a beautiful event, on a beautiful sunny spring morning.
We are all rallying as a community. The love and support that one another is expressing just warms your heart. The schools have amazing teachers, working hard to make sure their students succeed. The bus system with Amy Santandrea is awesome, making sure students get their breakfast and lunch each week.
Helderberg Lutheran is allowing the food pantry to be homed in their church. The Switzkill volunteers who installed a mini-food pantry outside Helderberg Church and “A Hug from the Hilltowns” are getting support from all. It is pure love. Nothing else can explain it.
I just wanted to fill you in on some of the positive things that are happening in our town!
We are still searching for those people who need help and support. It’s difficult with so many not having the ability to use social media. We are still needing donations. We will continue to persevere and figure it all out!
