Dystopian snow sculpture: Altamont's Sunset Drive saw an icon of freedom — the Statue of Liberty — wearing an icon of constraint — the surgical mask. Riley Snyder — a 24-year-old cruise-ship guitarist waylaid at home due to the ongoing pandemic — built the sculpture with his father, Sean Snyder, out of boredom. Riley said the idea for the statue came from "Planet of the Apes." The original film ends famously with a human encountering the remains of the statue to realize the captivity he escaped from is on post-apocalyptic earth after intelligent apes have waged war on humans. He said the "corona mask" was added on a neighbor's suggestion.
