Get into the ACT on Dec. 15 and come to the Victorian Holiday Celebration.

As I am writing this and looking out the window at the glorious white world of snow still falling, I wish the Victorian Holiday was now, to take in the ambiance of it all.

Alas, we’ll have to wait until Dec. 14 and 15, when all activities start. On Saturday, Dec. 14, a wine and cheese party at the Masonic Hall for village residents, compliment of ACT [Altamont Community Tradition] and the Altamont Wine School, will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. You’ll be able to vote on your favorite holiday tree and bid on

the very creative decorated wreaths, all done by village businesses and individuals.

Sunday events run from noon to 5 p.m. and will include indoor and outdoor activities throughout the village, including wine-tasting, festive foods, crafts for all ages, bondires, games, treasure hunts, music, storytelling, local brews, and a Living Nativity at the Reformed Church. There will be trollies for rides to the events.

A new addition is the “Howliday Pet Parade” that begins at 11:45 a.m. at the Masonic Hall. The parade will be led by John Scally, our local bagpiper.

You and your pets are invited to dress in your best holiday gear (or an ugly holiday sweater you love) and parade the streets of Altamont, ending up at Orsini Park. Altamont Family Values has donated a small prize for the best-dressed costumed critter.

All social pets are welcome along with a leash, pet carrier, or stroller, as this is a must for the safety of all. This will be a fun new event this year.

Many village businesses will be open, hosting special events that many enjoy every year. Altamont is a village that is visited throughout the year, but the Victorian Holiday celebration and Winter Market is the most popular, attracting visitors from across the Capital Region.

One of the most anticipated events is the arrival of Santa on his special train at 5 p.m. by the Altamont Free Library. Gifts for the children and photo opportunities for the parents will be there, so get out the scarves, mittens, warm socks, and boots to be ready for Sant’s visit. A smile and a few giggles will be good, too.

Maybe there will be snow, but whatever the day brings, come and enjoy a day of fun in a great Victorian village.
