Middleburgh Library Notes for Wednesday, October 2, 2019
Jay Unger and Molly Mason will perform at the Middleburgh Library on Oct. 6 at 4 p.m.
He was a Bronx kid. She grew up in Washington State. He was raised on pop music of the 1940s and ’50s. She had a fondness for traditional fiddle music and ’30s and ’40s popular tunes.
Since joining forces — both artistically and romantically; the two married in 1991 — Jay Ungar and Molly Mason have become one of the most celebrated duos on the American acoustic music scene. Jay's “Ashokan Farewell” was used by Ken Burns in his PBS Documentary “The Civil War.”
Tickets are available at the door. A $10 donation is suggested. Please use the library’s back entrance.
Storytime
On Oct. 8 at 10:45 a.m. join us for Drop-in Storytime. This fun and interactive program is meant for children ages 0-5 and their caregivers, although older siblings are always welcome! We read books, sing songs, play games, dance and watch a short movie based on a weekly theme. No registration is required!
Mahjong Mania
On Oct. 8 from 1 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday afternoons at 1 p.m. a spirited group of people get together in the Community Room to play Mahjong. Don't know how to play? No problem! They will teach you how. No registration is required.
Qi Gong
Oct. 8, from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. join us for Qi Gong a Chinese healing practice, incorporating breath and gentle movement to create a free flow of energy throughout the body. Wear loose clothing.
Insight Meditation
On Oct. 8 at 5:15 p.m. join us for Insight Meditation. What do you want most deeply? Seeing your life calmly and clearly helps answer this. Insight Meditation is a simple way to steady your mind, stop wandering in day-dreams, and end the suffering of troubling thoughts. Our group is a place to sit quietly in safety, supported by others; to allow understanding and compassion to arise; to encourage loving-kindness and patience. We welcome those with no experience to advanced meditators, teens to seniors. Give it a try. No registration is required. There is no fee. All are welcome.
UFO’s
On Oct. 8 at 6:30 p.m. join us for Hudson Valley UFO'S. The Hudson Valley of New York has been a UFO hotspot for generations. Join author Linda Zimmermann as we take the first comprehensive look at eyewitness accounts from 1909 to the present. There is also an award-winning documentary "In the Night Sky" based on her books. Bring your stories to share! Books will be available for purchase. Refreshments will be served. Registration required.

On Oct. 9 at 11 a.m. join us for Storytime with Miss Doreen — "Crayon Pals." - This is a fun filled storytime for kids 2-5 and their caregivers No registration required.
Pen & Ink Book Discussion
On Oct. 10 at 1 p.m., join us for a discussion of ""The Great Alone" by Kristin Hannah. A damaged vet named Ernt Allbright returns from Vietnam and moves his family to the wilds of Alaska to start their lives anew. Initially it's a welcome change, but as winter approaches, and Ernt's mental state deteriorates, his wife and daughter find themselves in an increasingly precarious position. Our discussion will be facilitated by Judith Prest. Judith is a poet, mixed media artist, photographer and creativity coach. No registration required.
Etsy
On Oct. 12 from 1 to 4 p.m. Getting Started Selling on Etsy. Etsy is a marketplace where creative entrepreneurs can sell their goods to people around the world. Leah Lafera is a certified Etsy Craft Entrepreneurship trainer and has taught both business and hands-on craft programs at public libraries in upstate New York. In this program participants will learn how to choose a shop name, get their products found in a search, photograph products, and price and ship items. Participants will leave the class with their shop started and with the tools to fully open their shop when they are ready! This class is for adults who make creative items or collect vintage items 20 years or older. Registration is required. Please bring your laptop or device with you.
