GUILDERLAND CENTER — For more than 35 years, Mary Lou Quay Sapio did laundry for Guilderland Center nursing-home residents. She died on Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at her home, after a short illness. She was 64.

Daughter of the late William Quay Sr. and Rachel Helligas Quay, she was a 1973 graduate of Guilderland High School.

Her work career spanned more than three decades at the laundry department of the Guilderland Center Nursing Home, which is now called The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Guilderland. She was honored this winter by her friends and work colleagues at The Grand for her long service.

Ms. Sapio was fond of all animals. Families of nursing-home residents would sometimes bring a resident’s dog to the nursing home for a visit, and Ms. Sapio always kept a dog biscuit or two in her uniform pocket just in case she happened to see a dog, recalled her sister Jane Willey.

Mary Lou Quay Sapio is survived by her son, Richard A. Kronsberg; her grandson, Randy A. Kronsberg; her granddaughter, Rachel A. Kronsberg; her sisters, Jane Willey and her husband, Richard; and Virginia Tymchyn and her husband, Paul; and by her brothers, William Quay Jr. and his wife, Bonnie; and John Quay. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

As was her desire, there will be no viewing or services.
