The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has gone viral on social media this summer as those being challenged have 24 hours to respond, film and post a of video of the ice-dumping, and then challenge someone else. ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a degenerative motor neuron disease with rapid progressive weakness of muscles.

Feeling soaked: Members of the Guilderland and Guilderland Center fire departments completed the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge at the Altamont Fair last Saturday. The Guilderland Fire Department challenged the Fort Hunter Fire Department, and Guilderland Center challenged the Altamont Fire Department.

Getting wet for a cause: Members of the Guilderland and Guilderland Center fire departments participated in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge that has been sweeping the country to raise money for the ALS Association, which announced this week it had received $15.6 million in donations from July 29 to Aug. 18 compared to $1.8 million during the same time period last year.
