Students at Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School Albany Campus were awarded the Gold Chapter of Distinction Award by SkillsUSA during the New York State SkillsUSA conference in Syracuse. Students Brianna Beisly of Berne-Knox-Westerlo, right, and Justin Firstiun of Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk, left, both of whom are enrolled in BOCES’ Health Careers program, represented the chapter during the three-day state conference from April 24 to 26. “You had to go into detail on everything that was done or happened during events throughout the year,” said Beisly of the presentation that netted the honor. “It proves to the state and to everyone that we are doing amazing things,” she said.
Five local students are among 700 students to have been awarded scholarships from the State University of New York at Oneonta’s scholarship funds, which total over $60 million and are the result of contributions from donors, corporations, and foundations. It is the largest endowment among SUNY comprehensive four-year colleges, according to a release from the college.
Local recipients are:
— Brooke Corbett of Slingerlands, who received the Alan B. Donovan Scholarship;
— Benjamin Hale of Altamont, who received the College at Oneonta Foundation 20th Anniversary Scholarship;
— Claire Leforestier of Delmar, who received the Margaret Tugas Transom ’44 Scholarship;
— DelaneyAnn Martin of Altamont, who received the Chance Imperato Foundation Scholarship; and
— Kirsten Rowe of Delmar, who also received the Margaret Tugas Transom ’44 Scholarship.
