Local students to compete at state SkillsUSA contest
Jared Strokes, a senior at Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk, and Zach Smith a senior at Voorheesville, on the Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School Albany Campus, weld welding booths that were being moved around the classroom to make room for new booths. Teacher Don Mattoon said the students – and their classmates – were preparing for the addition of the booths that will take place during spring recess.
Sixty area high school students will represent Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School during Spring Break at the annual New York State SkillsUSA competition in Syracuse.
The competition and conference runs from April 24 to 26 at the New York State fairgrounds in Syracuse. Winners of that event will advance to the national competition in Kentucky in June.
“I am looking forward to meeting other people in the industry and to putting my skills to the test to see how I do,” said Bryan Sidney, in a release from BOCES. Sidney is a Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration student at Capital Region BOCES from Voorheesville.
