BKW’s high tunnel will be open to educators on April 29
BERNE — The Albany County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Berne-Knox-Westerlo Central School District are hosting an April 29 open house at the school’s high tunnel for school administrators and educators.
The tunnel is located on school property at 1738 Helderberg Trail in Berne. The event will take place from 4 to 5 p.m.
The conservation district, through its School Assistance Program, is offering all Albany County schools an opportunity to apply for mini-grants of up to $5,000 to assist in the installation of a High Tunnel Growing System on their own grounds.
A high tunnel is a popular conservation practice that can help extend the growing season, improve plant and soil quality, and reduce nutrient or pesticide transportation. Plants are grown directly in the ground and not on tables or stands. The use of raised beds is optional.
Educators planning to attend should call 518-765-7923 or email Clerk.ACSWCD@gmail.com no later than Monday, April 22.
