Voorheesville Library Notes for Thursday, March 28, 2019
An iconic photograph, taken at the liberation of a death train in Nazi Germany, is brought to life by Matthew Rozell, a history teacher who reunited hundreds of Holocaust survivors and their children with the American soldiers who saved them. Rozell will speak about his book at the Voorheesville Public Library at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10.

From 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, March 29, we will be looking at and discussing archives held by library with focus on two collections.
Voorheesville Village Historian Dennis Sullivan will join us in the discussion. No registration is needed.
Inspirational Dance Class
Want the opportunity to express yourself through movement and dance?
Join dance instructor Shannon McConnell at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 30, for an energetic morning of basic dance techniques using imagery and movement. Children will tap into their imaginations and use their bodies to form letters, numbers, and build stories.
No dance experience is necessary. Please wear comfortable clothing such as sweat pants or leggings and a T-shirt. This program is for children ages 4 to 10. Please register.
Digital Spring Cleaning: Windows Edition
Time to dust out those hidden folders, delete old programs, and empty the trash (or recycling bin.) Stop by one of the Monday afternoons in April, from 1 to 2 p.m. to clean up and speed up your digital devices with some routine maintenance.
April 1 is for Windows, April 8 is for Android, and April 15 is for iOS. Participants should bring their own devices. Please register.
Beading workshop
On Monday, April 8, from 6 to 8 p.m., you can learn easy beading techniques for making simple necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. The library provides tools and offers a variety of beads to choose from, or you are welcome to bring your own supplies and projects along.
Check out our beading books and magazines for inspiration. You may arrive at any time during the workshop that fits your schedule. The workshop is for adults and teens ages 14 and up. Please register, and there will be a small materials fee depending on which projects you choose.
Remember the Holocaust
“A Train Near Magdeburg: A Teacher’s Journey into the Holocaust and the Reuniting of the Survivors and Liberators, 70 years on” is a book by teacher and historian. Matthew Rozell.
He will give a presentation about the extraordinary story behind an iconic 1945 photograph, which records the whole incredible story about Holocaust survivors left to die on a train in Nazi Germany and the American soldiers that liberated them.

Trustee nominating petitions available
Nominating petitions are now available for Voorheesville residents interested in running for an open seat on the library board. Petitions may be obtained at the library during regular library hours.

Snow delays
If the Voorheesville schools are delayed by two hours due to weather, all morning youth programs will be cancelled. If school is canceled, all youth programs for the day are canceled. Call to check on adult afternoon or evening programs.
