Two young goats stolen from Rensselaerville farm

RENSSELAERVILLE — In an isolated incident, two young goats were stolen from a farm on Route 353 in Rensselaerville, police say.

The goats were taken from the barn sometime between 1 and 11 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20, said Albany County Sheriff’s Inspector J.T. Campbell. No one was home at the farm during this time and, when the owners returned that night, the goats were gone.

Called the next day, police found footprints not belonging to the owner near the barn, which was not damaged, he said.

One goat is male and the other is female; each is worth about $400, said Campbell. Whoever is caught having stolen the animals would be charged with burglary and petit larceny, he said.

The motivation for the theft is unknown but the incident is currently being investigated by the sheriff’s office, said Campbell.
