GALLUPVILLE — Doris E. Skinner, a woman who was deeply involved with both her family and community, died on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019, in the comfort of her home in Gallupville. She was 79.

Mrs. Skinner was born on Feb. 20, 1939, in Schoharie to Cecil Miles and Erma Henrietta (née Lawyer) Diamond. She graduated from from Schoharie High School in 1957 and later married Howard M. “Skip” Skinner later that year on Nov. 23. Their marriage ended only with Mr. Skinner’s death 58 years later on April 6, 2016.

Mrs. Skinner was active in her children’s lives, sewing clothes for her children, and also volunteering as a leader in 4-H club and the sports booster club. She also was active in her community and was a member of the Gallupville Fire Department Auxiliary and the Gallupville and Berne Senior Citizens. She also enjoyed gardening, cross-stitch, hummingbird collectibles, bird-watching and playing cards with other couples in the area.

Mrs. Skinner is survived by her children, Terri-Ann Jeffrey and her husband, Charles, of Gallupville; Shawn Skinner and his wife, Patty, of Berne; and Kathleen Jaqueway and her husband, Mark, of Schoharie; her grandchildren, Samantha, Shari, and Josh Skinner; Kristin Jeffrey; and Jessica Jaqueway; her great-grandchildren, Emma, Alexandra, Ava, Quinn and Nolan; her siblings, Barbara Sharpe and her husband, Larry, of Sloansville; James Diamond and his wife, Edie, of Esperance; Geraldine Johnston and her significant other, Bob Allison, of Central Bridge; and Mike Diamond and his wife, Deb, of Schoharie; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Howard M. “Skip” Skinner, died before her; as did her sister, Jane Potts, and her brother-in-law, Dave.

Calling hours will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 28 at the Langan Funeral Home, on 327 Main St., Schoharie. A funeral service will immediately follow with Pastor James Wolford officiating.  Burial will be at a later date in the Gallupville Rural Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Skinner to the Wright Friendly Seniors (Gallupville Senior Citizens), sent to Ruth Snyder at 259 Goodfellow Rd., Westerlo, NY 12193; or the Hilltown Seniors (Berne Seniors), Post Office Box 43, Berne, NY 12023.
