GUILDERLAND — Guilderland Police are investigating “numerous” larcenies from unlocked motor vehicles in the Westmere and McKownville areas of the town, the department said in a release Friday.

Residents should lock their vehicles and should not leave valuables in them, police said. In addition, vehicles should be parked in well-lit areas if possible.

The Guilderland Police are asking anyone who has further information on this investigation or who has been a victim to call 518-356-1501.

This is not the first time Guilderland Police have put out an alert like this. In late November 2017 the department announced at least seven thefts in about two days from unlocked cars in the area of Van Wie Terrace in Westmere; Albany Police issued an email alert on the same day when the same kinds of incidents occurred in the city as well.

Police advised vehicle owners at the time to keep vehicles locked and any electronics, cords, and car mounts out of sight  If thieves see cords, they may be tempted to break in to look for electronics, said Officer Steve Smith, spokesman for the Albany Police, at the time.

Bethlehem had a large number of thefts from unlocked vehicles about a month ago, according to police there.
