ACT loves community and tradition

To the Editor:

The spirit of the people of Altamont is alive and well! Earlier this year, Altamont Community Tradition  put out a call for volunteers to help with the 2018 Victorian Holiday Celebration.

The events held on Dec. 8 and 9 were some of the best in recent times, because our friends and neighbors stepped up to make a difference. Many thanks to both the new and familiar faces who joined us in creating a memorable weekend.

A special thank-you goes to the house hosts who cordially opened their beautiful homes for the holiday house tour. It was a delight to welcome five never-seen-before residences to the tour, along with the lovely Altamont Reformed Church.

The history of these places is a telling story of a vibrant community of citizens who are an integral part of our history. Their independent, progressive spirit is what forged the prosperous and thriving village of Altamont.

ACT strives to maintain that spirit, as we connect with acquaintances who quickly become friends of ACT, and an essential part of our community.

Many thanks to our fellow community organizations and local businesses. The special events, Winter Market locations, and activities in the park, provided a wide array of activities for everyone. As ACT invites Santa to arrive by train, a big thank-you to the Altamont Free Library for hosting the enthusiastic crowd.

ACT extends its deep appreciation to both the village police and department of public works for making Altamont safe and accessible during our events.

The winners of the Festival of Trees this year were: first prize,Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7062; second prize, The Spinning Room; and third prize, Kushequa Estates Neighborhood. Congratulations to all!

What does ACT love about Altamont? Community and tradition. Happy Holidays!
