Voorheesville Library Notes for Thursday, November 29, 2018

— From chensiyuan

Times Square, the hub of the broadway theater district, attracts 50 million tourists annually, including perhaps some from Voorheesville who take the library’s annual bus trip to New York City, this year on Dec. 15.

Are you looking for a gift for someone special? Stop by the Voorheesville Public Library and shop at the Second Annual Friends of the Library Winter Boutique.

The Friends of the Library will have an assortment of winter-themed items to purchase as well as jewelry, fancy frames, purses and wallets, and much more. There is always a wide range of new and gently-used items for purchase.

The Winter Boutique will be held in the library’s community room from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, and from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2.  A bake sale will also be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, in the library.

All proceeds benefit the Friends of the Library, which helps to offset costs of special programs and events at the library. Unsold items will be donated to other worthy causes.

Decoupage workshop

Looking for something special to make for the holidays? Look no further than Saturday, Dec. 8, from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Using an assortment of pretty papers, we will make a unique holiday card with a removable star ornament. Please specify when you register if you prefer a Christmas or Hanukkah motif.

Local artist Lydia Lynch will facilitate the class.  All materials will be supplied. Ages 8 through adult. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Second Sunday Film

Join us on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. for my favorite holiday action adventure film.

You know I can’t tell you the title here, but, if I say barefoot New York Police Officer John McClane spends the night trying to rescue his wife, Holly Gennaro, from bad guy Hans Gruber at a Christmas party at Nakatomi Plaza, I’m sure you will know what film I speak of.

The film is rated R, and runs for two hours and 12 minutes. Light refreshments will be served. No registration is needed.

Getting started with email

Join librarian Andrew Ward from 10:30 a.m. to noon, on Wednesday, Dec. 12, as he takes the mystery out of using email. You will learn the basics, such as signing up for a free email account, basic email commands, and how to organize your inbox.

Email is a great way to stay in touch with family and friends, no matter where they live. Andrew is methodical and patient and wants to help you to master this computer skill. His classes are very small, to allow for personal one-on-one attention.

Don’t be shy and ask as many questions as you want. Please call the library at 518-765-2791 to register. While you are registering for this program, ask about his other basic computer classes.

Bus trip

We will be leaving from Voorheesville Elementary School parking lot at 7 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15. Approximate arrival in New York City, near Bryant Park, is 10 a.m. Departure from NYC is 7 p.m. with approximate arrival in Voorheesville at 10 p.m.

The cost $55, and members of the Friends of the Library pay $50. Cash or check payment is due when you reserve your seat in person at the library.
