Gerry Cross is a blessing in a troubled world

To the Editor:

I have read and re-read your tribute to Gerry Cross and recognition of his New York State Award as Basic Life Support Provider of the Year. [“After 57 years of service, Cross takes NYS award,” The Altamont Enterprise, Aug. 23, 2018].

The award was richly deserved. He and the other candidates deserve our thanks. His colleagues entered his name without his knowledge.

In a world so troubled, it is a real blessing to have Gerry as a friend. He has been my friend since the 1950s. Gerry and I rode to work at General Electric together when I lived near East Berne on a marginal farm.

Gerry is a loving father and grandfather. In his “free time,” he and his wife, Barbara, take their entire family to Disney World for extended time together. It’s something his son, daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandson will never forget.

Gerry has been a great community member and friend for many years. He richly deserves this award our thanks, and respect.
