Monster Mash Bash
Join Miss Amy at 10:30 am on Saturday, Oct. 27 for our Halloween Family Storytime! Our “Monster Mash Bash” will feature not so scary stories and some terrifyingly delicious snacks as well as a simple craft.
Please come dressed in costume! This program is for kids ages 2 to 7 with caregiver.
Don’t Get Ticked NY!
Avoiding Lyme and other tick-borne diseases requires avoiding a tick bite! Join Cornell University’s Joellen Lampman at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30 as she talks about the different ticks in our area and their biology, the diseases they carry, and how to protect yourself and others from being bitten.
Free tick removal kits will be offered to attendees willing to participate in a short survey.
Reading together
Parents or caregivers and young readers are invited to join us at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2 as we discuss “Miguel and the Grand Harmony,” the charming picture book adaptation of the film Coco.
Enjoy festive Day of the Dead activities and snacks too. For children in grades K-2 with a caregiver. Please stop by the library and pick up a copy of the book.
3D Printing
Looking for a special gift for someone? Why not make them something using the library’s Lulzbot Mini2 3D Printer? From 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 5, we will cover the basics of how the machine works. Then we will start personalizing our own designs using Tinkercad, a simple-to-use 3D design tool.
The library will print your design, and you will be able to take it home to keep or gift as you like. Open to everyone 14 years of age and older, no experience necessary.
Heroes all around us
Join us from 7 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6 as we explore the fascinating history of destroyer escorts and the lives of three men who served in the United States Navy during World War II and are tied in some way to these trim but deadly warships.
The first is Frank Slater, killed in action at Guadalcanal and for whom the USS Slater is named. The second, Leonard Roy Harmon, who also lost his life and would receive the posthumous distinction of being the first African American to have a ship named in his honor.
Finally, the remarkable story of a destroyer escort, the USS Samuel B. will be examined, highlighting the actions of Paul Henry Carr.
