Westerlo Library Notes for Thursday, September 6, 2018
The Town of Westerlo Republican Committee will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 6:30 p.m. in the Hannay Room at the Westerlo Library. This is an open public meeting.
Read to Lefty
Lefty will be back this Friday, Sept. 7, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Drop in to “Check it out!” and read with Lefty. (Librarians love saying, “Check it out.”)
Lefty is a registered therapy dog. Our thanks to Eric Markson for volunteering his time and sharing Lefty with us.
Memoir Writing Group
The Memoir Writing Group will meet this Saturday, September 8, at 11 a.m. This group provides its members a safe and supportive place to learn together.
Led by Lila Hollister Smith, the group is open to all who are interested in self-expression through the art of writing. The group meets once a month on the second Saturday of each month and new members are welcome.
Library Expedition
Love to visit libraries? Join the Expedition!
Visit as many of the 36 unique libraries in Upper Hudson Library System as you can during September, October and November. It’s a self-guided tour; road trip to our libraries as a family or a team of friends. Or go solo, and enjoy the journey to our intriguing library destinations on your own.
You’ll earn prizes when you’ve visited 5, 15, 25, and 36 locations. Visit them all and become a 36er!
Get started by picking up a map at our library (or any Upper Hudson library) – and you’ve already knocked one off the list.
For more information, ask the library staff or visit ww.uhls.org/expedition
Lego Club
Drop in on Monday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. to play and create with LEGO. We supply the blocks; you bring the imagination. Miss Lee is also available for homework help.
Story time
Join Miss Lee Wednesday mornings from 11 a.m. to noon for stories, songs, and movement activities designed for infants to children up to five years old. In addition to developing pre-reading skills, singing, moving to music, and playing instruments all help foster a sense of rhythm and timing that are essential elements in developing the part of a child’s brain that shapes math skills.
Storytimes are also a great opportunity to meet other parents of small children in Westerlo.
Technology Walk-In Wednesdays
Do you have a new smartphone or tablet, but don’t know how to download digital materials? Need to brush up on your computer skills – or obtain basic skills? See Amy on Wednesdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. for free, personalized, one-on-one instruction.
