Photos: Little Free Library on the Helderberg Rail Trail

On Wednesday, two little children, Caidyn and McKenna, wanted to help the community more by adding a Little Free Library at the corner of Adams Place and Hudson Avenue in Delmar by the entrance to the rail trail so kids and adults can enjoy a book near the rail trail.

Moments after its unveiling on Wednesday, all eyes are on the “Little Free Library” on Albany County’s rail trail at the corner of Adams and Hudson in Delmar. McKenna Mahan, 5, at front right and Caidyn Mahan, 8, behind her, requested that their grandfather, Papi, build it. Their parents are to the right. And county Executive Daniel McCoy, who lifted the black veil, is to the left. The girls have donated blankets to hospice and food to the Ronald McDonald House, sent Valentines Cards to kids at Albany Med and raised $4,000 with a lemonade stand to benefit a local police officer fighting cancer.

Stocking the shelves of their library, McKenna and Caidyn Mahan put books in place.
