ALTAMONT — Altamont’s Scout troop, Troop 264, which meets at the American Legion Post 977, spent the week of July 8 to 14 at Rotary Scout Reservation in Poestenkill, New York. The Scouts had a productive and enjoyable week; and the adult leaders enjoyed themselves, too!

The Scouts completed all requirements and earned a total of 45 merit badges and nearly completed four others. Some of the merit badges earned include: basketry, fingerprinting, environmental science, kayaking, rowing, swimming, lifesaving, first aid, rifle-shooting, shotgun-shooting, climbing, Indian lore, and metalwork.

In addition to the merit badges, the following were highlights and accomplishments during our week at camp:

— Keegan Bailey earned the “marksman” belt buckle for being the highest scorer in the entire camp at the rifle range;

— Troop 264 is divided into two patrols. Both the Tigger Patrol and the Bison Patrol earned Thunderbird Honor Patrol Awards for punctuality and participation in all camp activities;

— Our troop earned the Baden-Powell Honor Troop Award thanks in part to the leadership and drive of Senior Patrol Leader Adam Kedik and Patrol Leaders Jared Lasselle and Tom Pris;

— The Scouts kept the campsite very well maintained with inspection scores of 99, 100, 100, 102, and 100. We earned a bonus on Thursday for repairing the flagpole at the site;and

— Jared Lasselle was awarded the Honor Camper certificate for showing Scout spirit and living the Scout oath and law.

Troop 264 consists of Noah Arnaud, Keegan Bailey, Kevin Coonradt, Zach Harrison, Broden Higgins, Ethan Jubrey, Adam Kedik, Jared Lasselle, Jonathan Lasselle, Bob Nopper, Tom Pris, Sean Sill, Lucas Stang, and Gabe Zullo.

We wish to thank parent volunteers who spent one or more night at camp. Without our parents, camp cannot run: Theresa Lasselle, Manu Arnaud, Suzy Pris, Todd Kedik, Rich Lasselle, Bob Bailey, Scoutmaster Doug Stang, and Sean Higgins.

We will be awarding the merit badges earned this summer at our barbecue and Court of Honor on Sept. 5 at Bozenkill Park. Any one between the ages of 11 and 17 who are interested in learning more about Scouts is welcome to join us at the barbecue.
