GUILDERLAND — David E. Sherry, a man whose compassion knew no bounds, died on Friday, July 11, 2014, after injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident. He was 57.

Mr. Sherry was born in San Antonio, Texas, the son of Edmond A. Sherry and Carol Ganley.

His sister, Leigh Sherry, said that he had been riding motorcycles since he was a young teen. He was a 40-year veteran of riding and his favorite place to ride was Thacher Park.

“David died doing what he loved, and that was riding his Harley,” wrote his family in a tribute.

Mrs. Sherry said he enjoyed the peace and relaxation of riding, but also liked his bikes loud.

Mr. Sherry worked as a fleet manager for the City of Albany Department of General Services for more than 25 years.

His sister said she has been overwhelmed by how many of his coworkers have expressed how highly they thought of him.

“He touched so many lives and helped so many people,” she said.

In addition to riding his motorcycle, he liked to lift weights and fish.

“David will be remembered for his kind and generous heart,” his family wrote.

His sister called him her hero.

“He was bigger than life,” she said.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Sherry is survived by his daughters, Moriah Sherry, and her boyfriend, Josh Disco, and Rhianon Sherry; his sisters, Diane, Leigh, and Lauren Sherry; his niece, Claudia Sherry; his stepmother, Kathleen Sherry; his stepsister, Laura Ann Ganley; his stepbrother, David E. Ganley; and many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

His stepfather, John F. Ganley, died before him.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 18, at 7 p.m., at the New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m.
